  • Is there a fee to ski at Lapham Peak?

    A Wisconsin State Park vehicle admission sticker is required to enter the park. Daily or annual stickers can be purchased at the park office or online through the DNR. The trails themselves are free to use once inside.

  • Do I need to bring my own skis?

    Yes — Lapham Peak does not offer ski rentals on-site. Bring your own cross-country ski equipment. Several ski shops in the Milwaukee and Madison areas offer rentals if you need gear.

  • What hours are the trails open?

    Lapham Peak is open daily from 6am to 9pm. Lighted trails (2.5 miles) are available for night skiing until 9pm Monday through Saturday.

  • When does snowmaking start each season?

    The Committee begins snowmaking as soon as temperatures are cold enough — typically when it’s consistently below 28°F. This often happens in late November or early December, but varies each year with the weather.

  • How is man-made snow different from natural snow?

    Man-made snow is denser and more durable than natural snow, which actually makes it excellent for groomed cross-country tracks. It holds up well under skier traffic and can be produced at temperatures below about 28°F. It’s the same type of snow used at the Winter Olympics.

  • How do I volunteer or help with snowmaking?

    The Committee always welcomes volunteers for snowmaking nights, trail improvement events, and fundraising activities. Visit the Volunteer page to sign up or learn more about the wish list of needed equipment and supplies.
